ritual.
a meditative journey. as a piece is woven stitch by stitch, the wearer is held in mind — spirit, protection, empowerment, embedded into the fabric itself.
RITUAL
01 · Yarn is gathered
I work with a mix of natural, synthetic, and upcycled fibres — and I love taking apart discarded knitwear, giving its yarn a second life. Gemstones and reclaimed jewelry come in and wait for the piece that wants them.
02 · A form calls
Each piece begins with a form drawn from nature’s wisdom, its creatures, and archetypes. It is a transmutation: raw material and old thread remade into something new and wearable.
03 · Stitch by stitch
As I work, I hold the wearer’s essence in mind — spirit, protection, and empowerment worked into the fabric itself. It is soft but powerful: a steady devotion, one stitch after the next.
04 · Finished by hand
Every piece is blocked, shaped, and finished by hand — ends woven in, gemstones and reclaimed jewelry set where the piece asks for them. This is where it earns its drape.
05 · Worn into life
A piece completes its circuit on the body — in motion, in music, in community, and often on stage, where I work with performers bringing a character to life.
Why I work this way
Most knitwear that calls itself handmade is machine-made and finished by hand. Solyx is genuinely made by hand — every stitch passed through the next, by a single person between Victoria and Salt Spring. There is no sub-contracting and no scaling; I make what these two hands can make.
I use what already exists where I can — natural, synthetic, and upcycled fibres, and yarn reclaimed from discarded knitwear given new life. And I love collaborating with performers, making costume and character pieces for the stage. The Connect list is the calmest way to hear when something new is made.
